HUTCHINS RICEBIRD REPORT

October 8, 2026

Drop-Off and Pick-Up

To help ensure a smooth start to each school day, please remember that our school doors close at 7:50 a.m. This allows our staff to report to their classrooms and begin instruction promptly so that all students can start learning right away. If you arrive at 7:50 a.m. or later, please bring your child to the front office and sign them in.

We also ask for your support during afternoon dismissal. Dismissal begins at 3:30 p.m., and all students should be picked up by 4:00 p.m. If an unavoidable circumstance will cause you to be late, please communicate with the school in advance whenever possible. While we understand that emergencies can happen, late pickups should be rare and not become a regular occurrence.

Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and efficient school environment for all students.

Fall Break

Fall Break is here! Students will be out of school on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday. We hope our Ricebirds enjoy a well-deserved break filled with fun, family, and plenty of time to recharge.

Before we head into the long weekend, don't forget that Parent-Teacher Conferences are tomorrow. This is a great opportunity to connect with your child's teacher, celebrate successes, and discuss ways we can continue working together to support student growth.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and welcoming our Ricebirds back refreshed and ready to learn on Wednesday.

Field Trip Procedures

As field trips begin throughout the school year, we want to remind all parents and guardians of our field trip procedures.

Once we send permission slips home, any parent or guardian planning to attend the field trip must come to Hutchins Elementary before the day of the trip to complete a Field Trip Agreement Form and receive a field trip ID badge sticker.

For student safety, complete this process before the day of the field trip. We will not print field trip ID badge stickers on the day of the trip. Parents and guardians who arrive without a field trip ID badge sticker will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to attend the field trip.

These procedures ensure the safety and security of all students and are part of our established campus expectations at Hutchins Elementary.

We want our families to be involved and participate in our school events. Please help us by taking care of these responsibilities ahead of time so that you can enjoy the field trip experience with your child.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us keep our students safe.

BRAINS IN ACTION

Brains in Action: Spot Patterns
This week, encourage your child to look for patterns in the world around them. Patterns can be found in numbers, words, nature, music, and even daily routines. Ask questions like, “What do you notice?” or “What comes next?”
Why it matters
Our brains are naturally wired to look for patterns. Recognizing patterns helps children develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and prediction skills. It also strengthens mathematical reasoning and helps students make sense of new information more quickly.
Tip
Turn pattern hunting into a game. Look for patterns while driving, shopping, reading, or even setting the table. The more children practice noticing patterns, the stronger their thinking skills become.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK

Parent Engagement Tip: Review School Communication Together
This week, take a few minutes to review school flyers, newsletters, and classroom communication with your child. Talking about upcoming events, special activities, and important dates helps students stay informed and excited about what is happening at school.
Why it matters
When families stay connected to school communication, students are better prepared for upcoming events and opportunities. It also helps children see that home and school are working together to support their success.
Tip
Set aside a few minutes each weekend to review school information as a family. Ask your child which upcoming event they are most excited about and mark important dates on your family calendar so everyone stays connected to what's happening at Hutchins Elementary.

CAPTURING KIDS HEARTS TIP OF THE WEEK

CKH Tip: Practice Self-Direction
This week, encourage your child to take ownership of their responsibilities by practicing self-direction. Self-directed students make good choices, stay focused on tasks, and take initiative without always needing reminders from others.
Why it matters
Self-direction is an important life skill that helps children become responsible, independent, and confident. When students learn to manage their time, complete tasks, and make positive choices on their own, they are better prepared for success both in school and in life.
Tip
Give your child an opportunity to take responsibility for a daily task, such as packing their backpack, completing homework, or preparing for the next school day. Praise their effort and responsibility as they learn to take ownership of their actions and decisions.*.

SNACK DAYS AND PARENT LUNCHES

Due to next week being a three-day school week, we will not have snack sales during the week.
Parents and guardians are still welcome to join their child for lunch during their scheduled lunch time. We always enjoy having families visit our campus and share this special time with their students.
