HUTCHINS RICEBIRD REPORT

October 23, 2026

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week Begins Monday, October 26th!

Hutchins Elementary will celebrate Red Ribbon Week beginning October 26th! Red Ribbon Week encourages students to make healthy choices, stay drug-free, and build habits that support bright, successful futures.
Throughout the week, we will remind our Ricebirds that their choices matter and that taking care of their minds and bodies is an important part of growing up strong and healthy.
We encourage all students to participate in our Red Ribbon Week activities and dress-up days! Let's show our Ricebird PRIDE by making healthy choices, supporting one another, and standing together for a drug-free future. We can't wait to see everyone participate!
Monday is wear RED Day!!!

BRAINS IN ACTION

Brains in Action: Switch Up Your Strategy
This week, encourage your child to try a different approach when something feels difficult. If a puzzle is challenging, a math problem isn't making sense, or a task isn't going as planned, remind them that there is often more than one way to solve a problem.
Why it matters
The brain becomes more adaptable when children learn to adjust their thinking and explore different strategies. This flexibility strengthens problem-solving, creativity, and perseverance. Instead of giving up when the first attempt doesn't work, children learn to view challenges as opportunities to think differently and discover new solutions.
Tip
When your child gets stuck, resist the urge to give them the answer right away. Ask, "What is another way you could try this?" or "What could you change about your approach?" Encouraging children to explore different solutions helps them become flexible thinkers who are better prepared to tackle challenges independently.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK

Parent Engagement Tip: Talk About School Attendance
This week, take time to talk with your child about the importance of being at school every day and arriving on time. Help them understand that each school day brings new opportunities to learn, build friendships, participate in activities, and grow alongside their classmates.
Why it matters
Consistent attendance helps students stay connected to classroom instruction, keep up with new concepts, and develop routines that support academic success. When students miss school, they can miss important lessons, classroom discussions, and opportunities to practice new skills. Families play an important role in establishing attendance habits that support long-term success.
Tip
Make getting ready for school a consistent routine. Prepare backpacks, choose clothes, and organize school supplies the night before to help mornings run smoothly. Talk with your child about something they are looking forward to learning or doing at school the next day. Every day matters, and we want to see our Ricebirds ready to learn!

CAPTURING KIDS HEARTS TIP OF THE WEEK

CKH Tip: Assume the Best
This week, encourage your child to assume the best about others before jumping to conclusions. If a friend doesn't say hello, a classmate makes a mistake, or someone says something that hurts their feelings, help your child consider that there may be more to the situation than they realize.
Why it matters
Capturing Kids' Hearts emphasizes building relationships through trust, respect, and understanding. When children learn to assume positive intentions, they are less likely to make quick judgments, escalate conflicts, or misunderstand others. This mindset helps create stronger friendships and a more supportive environment where everyone feels valued.
Tip
When your child describes a disagreement or frustrating interaction, ask, "What is another possible reason they might have acted that way?" Help your child consider different perspectives before deciding how to respond. Teaching children to give others the benefit of the doubt builds empathy, strengthens relationships, and encourages a culture of kindness.
